Welcome to the Year of the Ox.    In Chinese Astrology, every year is associated with one of the 12 animals and their corresponding energy.  2008 was the year of the Rat, the first animal in the zodiac which presented a good time to start new things and plant seeds for the future. The Ox (2nd in line) also contains the essence of new beginnings but with more sustainability and longevity.   However, for long term plans and goals to be fully realized its going to require work, the roll up your sleeves kind of work.   The energy of the ox is about pulling your weight and taking responsibility for your own life.  It’s also about being kind to others and having patience with yourself and those who may be struggling.  For some this kind of energy will be welcomed and useful for others it may prove to be a challenge.     However, not all challenges are bad and sometimes they give us that extra push to move forward clearer with a better understanding about ourselves.  If you know how the year is going to affect you, it’s easier to plan ahead.   Chinese astrology is based on the year’s animal and its relationship to the one you were born in.   If you have a Jan birthday you will need to check on the internet (Chinese New Year changes each year).  For the rest, find the year your where born in on this chart:
Rat: 2008, 1996, 1984, 1972, 1960
Ox: 2009, 1997, 1985, 1973, 1961
Tiger: 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, 1950
Rabbit: 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951
Dragon: 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952
Snake: 2001, 1989, 1977, 1965, 1953
Horse: 2002, 1990, 1978, 1966, 1954
Ram: 2003, 1991, 1979, 1967, 1955
Monkey: 2004, 1992, 1980, 1968, 1956
Rooster: 2005, 1993, 1981, 1969, 1957
Dog: 2006, 1994, 1982, 1970, 1958
Pig: 2007, 1995, 1983, 1971, 1959

Remember if you can go with the flow of the year which is about responsibility, working hard,  moving cautiously and being kind to others you will be much happier.   The goal is to stay focused and healthy, not to spread yourself too thin.    If you find yourself stumbling, I’ve also added some special cures at the end to help you transition through this year.

Rats, snakes and roosters will have a very good year, with many opportunities on the horizon (money, self improvement and love).  However, it’s still important to go with the energy of the year, do all your research and be prepared for all your meeting, triple check the fine print in contracts and investments opportunities.  This isn’t a good year to be impulsive.

Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Monkey, Dog, Pig:  This is a good year to clean up the clutter left over from the rat year.  A good year to get your life back on track, it will take some work but the benefits will be long term.   You have the opportunity to do great things this year but only if you are patience and diligent, short-cuts or bending the rules will not serve you.   I encourage you to try Feng Shui cures  # 2 & #3.

Ox, Horse, Sheep: this year may have some challenges.  It’s important to go with the flow and avoid fighting other peoples battles.   It’s a good time to keep your head down, work towards your goals and be kind to others. Take this opportunity and develop your inner strength.  It’s important to stay focused, not to spread yourself too thin, stay healthy and surround your self with positive friends and loved ones.  When you have a choice to make -  choose happiness, choose to be the bigger person, choose to take deep breaths.   Stay positive in the light of adversity and look for the lesson in the challenges set before you.   Lastly, I encourage you to do the 4 Feng Shui cures listed below and email me if you want to chat with a fellow ox person.

Feng Shui Cures:

1. Go with the flow of the year:  work towards your goals with kindness and patients.

2. Serve others:  There is no better way to improve your luck then by helping others.   It can be through daily good deeds or volunteer work.

3. Wear a three dimensional rat on your keychain:   The ox and rat are best friends,  bad luck is   too distracted playing with the rat to cause problems.  You can find these in Chinatown, on-line or on Castro Street in Mountain View.

4. . Oranges:  used in many Feng Shui cures and rituals, signifies prosperity and purification.    You can incorporate oranges in many ways, plant an orange tree in your yard, put them on the dining room table, scatter the peels in a bath or eat them to boost your immune system.

Wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!!!  Many thanks to Professor Lin Yun Rinpoche, Edgar Sung and Rosalie Prinzivalli for their astrology teaching.
